About Chili Kulai

Chili Kulai is the workhorse red chilli of the Malaysian kitchen — the one that goes into sambal, rendang and chilli paste in volume. It is valued less for extreme heat than for consistency: even colour, reliable pungency, and a skin that holds up through transport and a day on a market table.

We grow Chili Kulai under fertigation rather than in open soil. Feeding through the irrigation line gives tighter control over the vegetative and fruiting phases than a granular schedule allows, which shows up in the harvest as more uniform fruit size and fewer undersized culls.

Grading and packing

Fruit is picked at full red maturity and graded the same morning. We separate on colour and fruit length rather than weight alone, because a buyer making paste and a buyer selling loose on a market stall want different things from the same crop.

Packing is to your requirement — loose in crates for wet market buyers, or in fixed weights for restaurant and processor customers. Tell us how you handle it at your end and we will pack to suit.

Availability

Chili Kulai crops on a continuous cycle rather than a single annual season, so supply is steady through most of the year with volume varying by planting schedule. Where a particular pick is spoken for, the availability note above will say so.

Ordering

We do not publish a price for chilli. The figure depends on collection versus delivery, volume, and payment terms, and a headline number would be wrong for most buyers who see it. Tell us what you need and how you want it delivered, and we will quote against that.

Add this crop to an enquiry or call us directly. For wholesale volumes we will usually want a short conversation about timing before quoting, since chilli moves quickly once picked.
